School in Chicagoland is starting soon; why not get psyched for it now?
The 83rd annual Bud Billiken Parade & Picnic on the city’s South Side takes place on Saturday, August 11 at 10 a.m. at 39th and South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Drive. The city’s premier back-to-school event celebrates education and the betterment of Chicago’s youth.
The parade will finish in Washington Park with after-parade activities, including a large picnic with entertainment, food, giveaways, a special tribute to President Barack Obama and more through 6 p.m.
Can’t attend the festivities? Watch them on ABC-TV Channel 7 and WCIU-TV Channel 26.

Instead of going back to school, how about going back in time at Retro on Roscoe, 2000-2300 W. Roscoe in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood, this Saturday and Sunday, August 11-12 from noon to 10 p.m.
The party will span six blocks and including antique vendors, artisans, live entertainment on three stages, a classic car show, tasty treats and more. Suggested donation is $10; proceeds benefit Roscoe Village Neighbors, a nonprofit that benefits local residents and merchants.

Not ready to give up summer yet? Check out the 31st annual Northalsted Market Days, the largest two-day street fair in the Midwest that takes place on Saturday and Sunday, August 11-12 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on N. Halsted Street, between Belmont and Addison in Chicago.
There will be more than 400 arts & crafts and food vendors and four stages of live entertainment, which will feature, among others, Olivia Newton-John and the Pointer Sisters. Suggested donation is $7; proceeds benefit the Northalsted Business Alliance.

Here’s a Chicago real estate specialty: The Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) is hosting a special tour, “Skyscraper, Art and Architecture Against Gravity,” which looks at buildings as fine art with a Museum of Contemporary Art lecturer on Saturday, August 11 at 10 a.m.
After, enjoy a 45-minute tour on Michigan Avenue with CAF docents who will explain how the street became the Magnificent Mile. Admission is $25 for CAF members and $30 for non-members. Meet at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave.
