If your new year’s resolution involves repainting walls and replacing furniture, you might want to avoid making these common decor mistakes:
- Too many photos. Sharing memories is great, but it’s easy to go overboard and too many framed photos on a wall can make a room look smaller. The better option is to stick to a few select picture frames, and then keep the rest of your family photos in a well-organized album.
- Too many cables. Many of today’s family rooms are equipped with Blu-Ray players, surround sound speakers and game consoles, and these wires aren’t always the most attractive home accessories. Keep cords hidden by using a cord cover that matches the color of your walls.
- Outdated furniture. This is one of the biggest home decor no-nos, but also one of the most common. Even if you’re on a budget, there’s no reason why you can’t keep up with the latest trends. If you don’t want to replace an entire furniture set, find smaller ways to spruce up your living space. A new comforter can enhance any bedroom, or modern drawer pulls can add new life to your kitchen and bath cabinets. You can even purchase a modern lamp for that old table you just can’t get rid of!
- Clutter. Yes, there can be such a thing as too many home accessories. In the new year, try re-organizing your home and streamlining your decor to avoid an overly “busy” look.
Even if you’re on a budget in 2013, giving your home a makeover is one resolution worth keeping!
