Just because summer is almost over doesn’t put an end to gardening. It’s time to start considering a fall landscape.
Learn how even a small space can be transformed into a dreamscape at the Chalet’s Landscape Experience on Saturday.
The free, daylong event is scheduled rain or shine from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will begin with a live radio broadcast by WGN Radio’s Mr. Fix-It host, Lou Manfredini from 6 to 9 a.m.
Throughout the day:
*View a dozen beautiful outdoor gardens to get ideas for your own.
*Get advice from 13 professional and award-winning Chalet landscape architects and designers.
*Learn through presentations scheduled every half hour from 9:30 a.m.to 3 p.m. on the Main Stage. Topics include landscape design, lighting, decks, tree care, lawn care, planting, containers and more.
*Get design consultations and sketches for your outdoor area.
*Enjoy kid’s activities.
*Win raffle prizes valued up to $500.
*Try tasty treats from the Chalet’s outdoor kitchen.
You can also bring in samples of your diseased or pest-riddent leaves or stems for a free diagnosis from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make sure you put your specimens in baggies.

What does it mean to be green? Find out at the first annual Central Illinois Green Expo in East Peoria this weekend.
The event, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Illinois Central College East Peoria Campus, hopes to attract residents, professionals, business owners and community leaders interested in discovering how green options benefit communities.
There will be an exhibition tent, presentations by industry leaders and educators, how-to workshops, lots of kid’s activities, locally grown food and live music.
The two-day event will feature the most recent developments in energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable living in a fun, educational way.

If you are going to be in the neighborhood on Saturday, September 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., then you should also check out Illinois Central College’s “Gardening Goes Green” event at the Horticulture Land Lab on the East Peoria Campus.
This Landscape & Garden Day will offer seminars, exhibits and discussions geared toward teaching homeowners how to maintain their lawn and garden the green way. There will also be a plant sale.

LEED for Homes Illinois is accepting reservations for its tour of an energy-efficient single-family home in Glencoe on September 17.
Barry and Natalie Slotnick are building a home in the North Shore suburb for their growing family that will achieve LEED for Homes Gold certification.
Designed by Nathan Kipnis Architects and developed by Scott Simpson Builders, the home is being built to have minimal environmental impact by reducing energy needs and incorporating two types of solar energy systems.
Space is limited, so sign up today. The $10 admission will be donated to a charity of the Slotnick family’s choice.
