When thinking about moving to a different Chicagoland area, there are important factors that play into your decision.  Schools, cost of homes for sale, transportation and surrounding amenities are just a few factors you might consider. If you are unsure where to begin looking, according to Money Magazine there are two Illinois suburbs that made the top 50 Best Places to Live list. This list, which was released on September 19, has approximately 60 components that help compile the list. Some of those elements are; health care, education, jobs, taxes, home affordability and a population greater than 50,000.
One of the main reasons Money Magazine decided to put out this list was to help potential homebuyers find a different and more suitable place to settle down and still remain close to their current area.
So which two Chicago area suburbs made the list? Naperville ranked number 10, and Hoffman Estates, ranked number 27.
Naperville should not be a surprise to anyone though. This suburb has been on multiple national lists and has received many top honors; schools are ranked among the best in the state, third most successful city in the United States, best place to live in Illinois, wealthiest in the Midwest and considered one of the safest cities to raise children.
With a river running right through the suburb nothing could be more quaint.  Naperville is known for its 1.75 mile charming Riverwalk, which is now recognized as one of the most gorgeous spots in the Midwest. Take a walk along the brick paved paths and you will see fountains, beautiful landscaping and covered bridges.  Naperville is also known for its quaint shops and multiple restaurants.
If that isn’t enough to convince you to make Naperville your home there are special events schedule throughout the year that is perfect for everyone. There are concerts, art shows, music festivals and of course events to celebrate the holidays such as Halloween.
Naperville is not short on means of transportation either. For those who commute into the city for work, they can travel by Metra train that runs to Chicago’s Union Station. If driving is your preferred mode of transportation there are multiple interstates that commuters can take such as interstate 355, 294, 88 and 55. When it isn’t rush hour the drive usually takes about 40 minutes.
According to the median price of current homes listed is $429,900 with the median value of a home being $373,500. If you are looking to rent in Naperville, the median rental price is $1,850.
Hoffman Estates is the other suburb in Illinois that made the 50 Best Places to Live. There are many reasons why families are attracted to this northwest suburb of Chicago. One particular reason is the education that their children can receive by attending on of the top high schools. Hoffman Estates High School, which is part of High School District 211, is ranked 49th in the state of Illinois. Even though there is a large student body, approximately 1,900 students, they are still about to maintain a student-teacher ratio of 14:1. Another aspect that makes Hoffman Estates High School stand out amongst other schools is the variety of extracurricular activities offered such as; martial arts club, robotics club and their water polo team.
Unlike Naperville, transportation to the city is not as convenient. There are three Metra stations that are in the vicinity: Schaumburg, Roselle and Bartlett. Interstate 90 is the best way for residents of Hoffman Estates to reach the city.
Hoffman Estates is also home to the Sears Centre Arena, where people from near and far come for sporting events, shows and concerts. If you are a nature lover, there are multiple forest preserves to walk and bicycle. But for those golf lovers, the city prides themselves on the magnificent 18-hole golf courses; Hilldale Golf Club, Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club and Highland Woods Golf Course.
Per the median price of homes currently for sale is $264,900. If renting is an option, the median rental price in Hoffman Estates is $1,800.
If the time is right for you to relocate, consider one of these two Chicago suburbs that are part of the Top Best 50 Places to Live. You can’t go wrong with either one since both have positive aspects that are drawing people to settle down in Hoffman Estates or Naperville.
