I spent the first day of May buying fruits and vegetables to plant in the garden of my Chicago home.
It’s only appropriate that I do this now, as May has been designated as Gifts from the Garden Month. If all goes right, that’s exactly what I’ll have from my plantings in a few weeks.
While I am eager to break ground this weekend, I didn’t. It’s important to hold off planting until after the last possible frost. In Chicago, the average frost-free date is May 15.
Don’t worry, while we wait there are plenty of other causes to celebrate during the month of May.
May is National Preservation Month. It is designated to draw attention to the historic preservation of neighborhoods, landmark buildings and homes, and open spaces. Check back to Chicago Real Estate Forum for more on this throughout the month.
May is National Strawberry Month. That’s one of the fruits I will attempt to plant. Have never been successful, however. The squirrels really like these.
May is National Barbeque Month.
It’s also National Chocolate Custard Month, National Egg Month, National Salad Month, National Salsa Month and National Vinegar Month, not that you could barbeque any of those things.
It’s also Sweet Vidalia Onions Month and National Asparagus Month. You could maybe barbeque those.
May is National Moving Month, since this month kicks off the busiest moving season of the year.
It’s also Creative Beginnings Month, National Bike Month, National Good Car Keeping Month and Motorcycle Safety Month.
May is Family Wellness Month.
It’s also Better Sleep Month, Meditation Month, National Foster Care Month, Older Americans Month, Personal History Month and Teen Self-Esteem Month.
May is National Stroke Awareness Month.
It’s also National Arthritis Month, Healthy Vision Month, National Allergy/Asthma Awareness Month, National Mental Health Month and Women’s Health Care Month.
* Go Fetch! Food Drive for Homeless Animals Month
* Heal the Children Month
* International Audit Month
* International Business Image Improvement Month
* International Victorious Woman Month
* Jewish-American Heritage Month
* National Military Appreciation Month
* National Photo Month
* National Preservation Month
* National Share A Story month
* National Smile Month
* Young Achievers of Tomorrow Month
The last celebration I will share is a day. May 1 is New Home Owner’s Day. It’s a time for buyers who recently have been through the process of purchasing a new abode to stand back and really appreciate your investment.
If you are not a recent new home owner, don’t despair. May 1 is also No Pants Day.
Have a great month!
