While many parties and events downtown require reservations and cover fees, there are various kid friendly activities you can take part in for free. Check out this list of free Chicago New Year’s Eve events to ring in 2016 with your family:
Chi-Town Rising Family Countdown: Chi-Town Rising is Chicago’s newest New Year’s Eve Tradition. While the main event charges admission, a free family event will be hosted between 3:00 and 6:00pm. The event is located in Wrigley Square at Millennium Park and ends with the “Kids Countdown Spectacular.”
ZooLights: Continue your New Year’s Eve celebrations with a visit to Lincoln Park Zoo to see the beautiful holiday lights. Enjoy family friendly activities such as free holiday crafts and live ice carving. ZooLights is open 4:30 – 9:00pm. It is strongly recommended that visitors use public transportation if possible due to limited parking.
Millennium Park Ice Skating: Show off your ice skating skills at Millennium Park this New Year’s Eve. Admission to McCormick Tribune Rink is free, but you may need to rent a pair of skates for $12. The rink is open 10:00am – 8:00pm on New Year’s Eve.
Navy Pier Fireworks: End your New Year’s Celebration with a bang by watching the iconic firework display at midnight at Navy Pier. Be sure to arrive early to get the best view. For current updates and information follow Navy Pier on Twitter @NavyPier.
