What a weekend! Saturday is Record Store Day, Sunday is Earth Day and each day includes events to help you make the most out of your home.

Chicagoland Home Remodeling & Design Expo: The newest Chicago-area Home Expo emphasizes on the modernization of the home. There will be hundreds of exhibits, plus interactive demonstrations, celebrity appearances, kids activities and more. The show will be at the Odeum Expo Center, 1033 N. Villa Avenue, Villa Park on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking and admission are free; click here to print out a voucher for a free gift.
Home Improvement Showcase Expo: You can find all your home improvement needs at this annual show, set for Friday, April 20 from 5 to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Barrington Field House, 28156 W. Northpointe Pkwy., Lake Barrington. Besides all the products and services on hand, there will be live cooking demos, free wine tastings and free food, games and activities for the kids and more.
Antiques & Garden Fair: One of the Chicago Botanic Garden’s signature spring events, more than 100 vendors will be on hand selling furniture, art and more for your garden. Times are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 20-22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe. There is a charge for parking and admission.
Earth Day Parks & Preserves Clean-up Nature: Join Friends of the Park and volunteer residents for this 23rd annual event on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon, to clean and preserve parks around Chicago. Bring work gloves. There will be celebrations and educational opportunities at some of the sites as well. Click the link to find them.
Go Green! A Celebration of Conservation: This festival at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road, Oak Brook, is set for Sunday April 22 from noon to 4 p.m. and will teach participants how to live more eco-friendly on Earth Day. The event is free, though some activities have small fees.
Earth Day: Recycling and Pizza Tweet-Up: The University of Illinois at Chicago Office of Sustainability is sponsoring this event on Sunday, April 22 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Bacino’s Pizza, 118 S Clinton, Chicago, where, for $10, you’ll get all-you-can-eat pizza and lessons on how to be more environmentally friendly in your home. There will be small electronics recycling, hourly raffles, a chance to make your own air-friendly cleaning products and more.
Intro to Gardening: Seed Starting: Williams-Sonoma is hosting this hands-on workshop, in which participants will learn how to start planting with the provided Beekman Heirloom seeds, starter pots and soil that they will take home for their own garden. Class times vary by store, and reservations are required, so click the link to find and contact your local store for more information. Record Store Day: Celebrated on the third Saturday of April, this year April 21, independently owned record stores throughout the country and Chicago will be offering free performances, giveaways and more to honor the art of music.
