Can’t bear to ditch your beloved vehicle, but still want to own a piece of Chicago real estate? Then check out this list of the best Chicago neighborhoods for car owners, according to Sun Times Media.
- The South Loop: This neighborhood offers quick access to I-90, I-94, I-55 and Lake Shore Drive with minimal congestion. Street parking is still metered in this part of the city, but at least there are plenty of open spaces. Off-street parking costs about $200 per month for a heated garage space, which is fairly reasonable compared to other downtown rates.
- Bucktown: Unlike Wicker Park, where street parking is often difficult to find, this area of Chicago has a fair amount of street parking especially east of Damen Avenue. The average Bucktown parking garage rent costs around $125.
- East Loop/Lake Shore East: While this neighborhood has an average parking cost of $225-$275 a month, the extra money is worth it. Most condos in the East Loop/Lake Shore area offer parking garages that exit directly onto Lower Randolph Street or Lower Wacker Drive. You can also get to Lake Shore drive in under a minute and can access 2-90 or I-90 in five minutes or less!
Hopefully renting or owning in one of these neighborhoods will make your commute a little easier.
